SHREE SAMBHAVNATH SWAMI TEMPLE
Poona ( Maharashtra )

In the year 1984, Mr. BHOGIBHAI V. SHAH (Director of KHEMCHAND DAYALJEE & SONS. POONA) has decided to built a temple in his residential premises. He has appointed Mr. B. M. SOMPURA as an architect of the temple, and Mr. Sompura has designed and construct the whole temple project within 11 months.

The temple is carved in a Jaisalmer Yellow sand stone and it’s looking like that it’s made of a gold. The temple is based on 3’ height platform (Pradakshina Path). The embossed panel of the "Varghoda" has been carved from Makrana white marble and installed on the middle part of the platform. The panel of the elephants has been also installed in the base of the Mandap (Prayer Hall) which is carved in black stone.

Three wheels has been also attached with the "Jagti" of the temple on both sides of it and 9’ feet long Horses has been attached in front of the temple. This whole design looks like a "Rath Temple", which is the first temple of this kind all over the world. Above Kernpith the mandovar (Panelled Wall) has been carved like Delwara temple’s. In the main Jangha of the mandovar, 16 gods "Spatnika" (gods of all the directions) and in the subsidiary Jangha moulding 16 Vidhyadhar, Dundubhi and Dancing figures has been superimposed.

The pillars of the Mandap has been decorated with Toran (Decorative arches) and dancing figures.

The temple is dedicated to Jain tirthankara Shree Sambhavnath Swami and Horse is the symbol of Shree Sambhavnath Swami. That’s why the design of "Rath Temple" has been superimposed in whole structure of the temple. And today this temple is attraction of the whole Jain community.
